We set up Bearings And Spares on the first floor of Plot No. 30. Strand Road is always packed with traffic, so it can be quite a struggle just to get to the door some mornings. Our office is up the stairs, away from the worst of the street noise, though you can still hear the horns honking all day. It’s an old building with high ceilings. We keep all our stock on shelves that go all the way up. Sometimes we have to use a ladder to find what a customer needs. It’s a bit dusty, but that’s expected when you’re dealing with metal parts and spares. We spend most of our time looking through catalogs or checking the bins. It’s just a few of us here. We’ve known the guys in the other offices on this floor for a long time. We usually have a kettle going for tea. It’s a simple way to work. No one wears suits here. We’re usually in work shirts that might have a bit of grease on them by the end of the shift. Strand Road is a tough place to work because of the congestion, but it's where the business is. We’ve grown used to the chaos outside and the slow pace of the building's hallway. It just becomes part of your routine after a while. We stay until the last delivery is picked up.
