Our place is at No. 18/2 on Canal West Road, which isn't the easiest place to find if you aren't looking for it. Bankco Packaging India Private Limited deals with a lot of heavy rolls and big sheets of material. The floor is concrete and stays pretty cold even when it’s warm outside. We spend the day moving things from the machines to the loading area. There’s a specific smell of glue and paper that stays on your clothes long after you leave. Canal West Road has a lot of truck traffic, so the ground vibrates sometimes when the big ones go past. We have a small desk for the paperwork, but it’s mostly covered in samples and tape measures. The lighting overhead is a bit yellow and one of the bulbs always seems to be flickering. We don't have a fancy office space; it’s mostly just the workshop where the real work happens. Most of us wear heavy boots because you never know when a pallet might be in the way. It’s a physical job and we’re usually pretty tired by the time we lock up in the evening. We eat our lunch sitting on some of the extra crates in the back. It isn't a glamorous setup, but it’s where we’ve been for years and it works for us. We just keep the machines running and the orders stacked up near the main entrance.
