Bajoria Shellac & General Exports is up on the 7th floor of 23A, Netaji Subhas Road. Being that high up gives us a bit of a view of the surrounding rooftops, which is nice when you need a break from the screen. We focus on shellac and other exports, which is a trade that has been around for a very long time. Our office is fairly quiet compared to the street below. We have a few rooms filled with samples and records that go back years. It’s a family-run feel even though we are a private limited company. Most of us have been working here for a long time, so we know the routine inside out. We don't really go in for modern office designs. It’s more about having enough space for the ledgers and the product samples. The elevator is usually busy, so there’s often a bit of a wait to get up here. We spend our days communicating with buyers and checking on the quality of the batches we are sending out. It’s a lot of back-and-forth, but we enjoy the rhythm of it. We don't put out a lot of brochures or anything. Most of our business comes from long-standing relationships we’ve built up over the decades. It’s just how we prefer to work. We show up, check the orders, and make sure everything is packed and ready for the journey. It’s honest work and we like being up here on the seventh floor.
