The shop at No. 12 B Lack Place stays pretty busy most days. We usually get here early to open up Sree Krishna Hosiery Kolkata before the sun gets too high. There are stacks of boxes everywhere because that is just how it is when you deal with hosiery. It is not a huge fancy showroom, but it works for what we do. You can hear the traffic and people shouting outside on the street while we check the inventory. Sometimes the fans do not do much against the heat, but we just keep going. We spend a lot of time counting items and making sure the orders for the local markets are ready to go out. It is a lot of manual work, lifting heavy packs and moving things from the back to the front. People come in looking for specific sizes and we have to dig through the shelves to find exactly what they need. The floors are a bit worn down from years of walking back and forth. We eat our lunch right here at the desk most afternoons because there is always something to do. It is just a regular place where we try to get the jobs done every day without too much fuss. By the time we close the shutters in the evening, we are tired but it feels okay. Kolkata is a noisy city and our little spot on Lack Place is just one small part of it all.
