Ambica Jute Mills Ltd.

Ambica Jute Mills has been operating out of 5 Middleton Street for quite some time. The building has that old city feel to it, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep things a little cooler than the street outside. Jute is what we know best. It is a rough, honest fiber, and that is pretty much how we run things here too. We handle the business end of the mills, so there is always a lot of talk about tonnages and shipping dates. The office is usually a bit of a mess with samples of sacks and twine lying around on the chairs. We have some old wooden furniture that has probably been here since the place opened. You can always find a layer of fine jute dust on the windowsills, no matter how much we clean. It’s just part of the trade. We deal with people from all over who need packaging for grain or sugar. It’s a busy environment, especially when there is a big order to get out. We don’t go in for fancy presentations or corporate talk. We just tell you what we have and when it can be ready. Sometimes the phones won't stop ringing and other times it is quiet enough to hear the crows outside on the ledge. We are just a group of people keeping an old industry going in a modern world.
