Down on R.N. Mukherjee Road, inside the Martin Burn Building, you’ll find us on the fifth floor at Suite 52. This building has a lot of history, and you can feel it in the hallways. We are the Aludecor team, and we spend our hours thinking about how buildings look on the outside. We work with these metal panels that people use for cladding. It sounds simple, but there’s a lot of arguing over colors and how the sunlight hits the metal. Our office is often cluttered with little squares of aluminum samples in every shade you can imagine. We deal with architects who have big ideas and builders who just want to know when the truck is arriving. It’s a bit of a juggle. Kolkata is a city where things move at their own pace, and R.N. Mukherjee Road is always a scramble of people. We try to keep things organized, but on busy days, the phones don't stop ringing and the samples end up all over the floor. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want the buildings people live and work in to stay looking decent for a long time. It’s practical work. We’ve got a mix of young folks and some who’ve been in the trade for decades. We just keep our heads down and try to get the orders right so the sites don't have to wait for us.
