We’ve been at 138 Canning Street for quite a while now. If you know the Calcutta GPO area, you know how busy it gets with all the traffic and people moving around. Our shop is right there on the ground floor. We deal mostly in ball bearings of all sizes. It’s a dusty job sometimes, but someone has to keep the machines running. We spend most of our days looking through catalogs or checking stock in the back room. The lighting isn't great, but we know where everything is kept. Usually, customers come in looking for a specific part for a motor or some old piece of equipment they’re trying to fix up. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s just a counter, some tall shelves, and a lot of grease-proof paper. Sometimes the fans don't work right when it’s hot, but we manage. Canning Street has changed over the years, more shops, more noise, but we just stay here doing what we know. If you need a bearing, you just walk in and ask. We might have to dig around a bit if it's an odd size. It’s just regular work for us. Most of the people around here have known us for years. We don't bother much with the internet or big ads. People just find us by word of mouth or by walking past the GPO. It’s a simple setup we’ve got going.
