A. Kumar & Co.

If you ever find yourself on C.I.T. Road near Sch. Viim, you might walk right past number 47 if you aren’t looking closely. The sign for A. Kumar & Co. has seen better days, honestly. Inside, it's a bit of a maze with stacks of ledgers and folders everywhere. We have this old ceiling fan that clicks on every third rotation, but it keeps the air moving during the sticky months. Most of the day is spent handling whatever comes across the desk. It’s a lot of writing and checking things twice. The tea guy comes by at eleven and four, which is usually the highlight of the afternoon. We know most of the people on this block, from the guy selling snacks at the corner to the regulars who stop in just to say hello. It isn't a high-tech operation, just a place where things get done the old-fashioned way. Sometimes the traffic outside gets so loud we have to shout a bit to be heard over the horns. The floors are worn down in the spots where we walk the most, between the main desk and the filing cabinets. We’ve thought about painting the place, but then we’d have to move everything, and that seems like more trouble than it’s worth. We just keep things moving, one day after another, making sure the people who count on us are happy with what we do.
