Vail Memorial Hospital

Vail Memorial Hospital is located on Sangli Road, right near Gandhi Chowk. If you know that intersection, you know it can get pretty hectic with all the bikes and cars zooming past. Our building sits right there, so we hear the honking and the city noise all day long. It has been there for quite a while now, and most people in the neighborhood use it as a landmark when giving directions. The staff here is a mix of young people and some who have been around since the hospital first opened its doors. We usually start the day by cleaning up the front area and checking the schedule, though schedules don't always mean much when people just walk in off the street. It is a practical place. We don't have fancy decorations or anything like that. The hallways are narrow and the walls are a plain color that doesn't show much dirt. We spend most of our time just talking to patients and trying to figure out what they need. Sometimes we run out of chairs in the waiting room and people have to stand near the door, especially on Monday mornings. It’s just how it is. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. It’s a busy hospital on a busy road, and we just keep the lights on and the doors open for whoever needs us near Gandhi Chowk. We’ve seen a lot of people come and go over the years on Sangli Road.
