Shri Mahalaxmi Masala

Shri Mahalaxmi Masala has been operating out of Kawala Naka for a long time. We are right by Tarabai Park and very close to the railway station, so it’s always busy around here. You can hear the trains coming and going all day long. The smell of ground spices is very strong once you step inside our place. We have these old grinding machines that make a lot of noise but they do the job better than the new ones. My father started this and now I’m the one looking after the daily chores. We don't use fancy packaging or have a big marketing budget. People just know where we are. They come from the station on their way home to pick up a few bags of masala. The air in the shop is always a bit spicy, which makes everyone sneeze when they first walk in. We just laugh about it. It’s a very simple life here. We wake up early to get the stones moving and we stay until the sun goes down. There isn't much room to move around with all the sacks of turmeric and chili lying on the floor. We are just a small local business trying to keep the traditional way of making spices alive without making a big fuss about it. It’s what we know and what we do. No mission statements, just masala.
