Sangli Civil Hospital

This hospital sits right on Civil Hospital Road, not far from where it meets Ambedkar Road. It is a large, sprawling place that has been here for decades. The buildings are made of heavy stone and have those high ceilings that you don't see in modern construction anymore. Because it’s a civil hospital, it is always full of people from the morning until late at night. The corridors are long and can be a bit confusing if you aren't used to the layout. We have different sections for everything, but they are all connected by these open-air walkways. The benches in the waiting areas are made of heavy wood and have been rubbed smooth by thousands of people sitting on them over the years. Outside, the road is always packed with rickshaws and people selling fruit or juice. It’s a very noisy environment, but once you step inside the thick walls, it gets a little quieter. We have a lot of staff, from the doctors down to the sweepers, and everyone is usually in a hurry. The smell of disinfectant is very strong everywhere you go. It’s a place that never really sleeps. Even in the middle of the night, there are lights on and people moving around in the wards. It’s a major landmark here in Sangli, and everyone knows the way to the main gate on Civil Hospital Road.
