The workshop is over at Plot No. C-49 in Dhanwantari Nagar, which is part of the R. K. Nagar area. It’s mostly an industrial spot, so there are always trucks moving around and the sound of machines from the neighbors. Inside our place, it smells like leather all the time. You get used to it after a few minutes, but visitors always notice it right away. We spend most of the day at the cutting tables or working the stitching machines. It isn’t a quiet job. There’s a lot of banging and the hum of the motors running until late. The floor is usually covered in small bits of hide and thread by the time we lock up for the night. We have a small office area tucked in the corner where the paperwork gets piled up, mostly just invoices and hand-drawn sketches for the next batch of goods. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, especially during the summer months, so we take breaks under the shade outside when we can. Working with leather is tough on the hands, and everyone here has some calluses to show for it. We don't have a fancy lobby or any air conditioning in the main work area because we are too busy making things. It’s a practical space for practical work. Most of the guys have been here for years, so we all know the routine by heart and don't need much talk. We just get on with it.
