Shwthajali Bharatanaya School Of Dance

At Shwthajali Bharatanaya School Of Dance, we spend most of our time keeping the traditions of dance alive here in Malur. Our studio is located in the Karanje Extension area. It’s a place where you can hear the sound of ghungroos almost every evening. I started this because I love Bharatanatyam and I wanted to share it with the kids in the neighborhood. We don't have a big stage or professional lighting in the practice room; it’s just a clean floor and some mirrors. The students come in after their regular school is over. Some of them are very small and just learning how to stand correctly, while others have been with us for years. It takes a lot of patience to teach the mudras and the footwork. We practice the same steps over and over until they get them right. Kolar can be quiet, but our little corner in Karanje Extension stays lively with music. We do have some performances during festivals, but most of the work happens right here in the studio. It’s not about being a star overnight. It’s just about learning the art and staying disciplined. I often tell the parents that dance helps with focus. We have a small waiting area for them to sit while they wait for class to finish. It’s a very local, friendly atmosphere where everyone knows each other. We just keep dancing and teaching, one day at a time, making sure the art doesn't get forgotten.
