Indian Potatos Ltd

Living and working on Osoor Road in Berigai means you get used to the sound of school bells from Vidya Barathi School across the way. Here at Indian Potatos Ltd, the days are mostly about the smell of dirt and the sight of brown sacks piled up to the ceiling. We spend a lot of time sorting through what comes in from the fields, checking for bruises or spots. It is messy work and our hands are usually covered in soil by ten in the morning. The office is just a small room with a couple of chairs and a desk that’s seen better days. We get a lot of trucks coming through this part of Berigai, especially during the harvest season. It gets quite loud with the engines idling while we load up the crates. Sometimes the weather doesn't play nice and we have to move everything inside quickly before the rain hits. It's not a glamorous job, but someone has to make sure the potatoes get to where they’re going. We know the neighbors pretty well, and sometimes we share a few snacks when things quiet down in the evening. The school kids sometimes peek in through the gate on their way home, wondering why we have so many vegetables. It’s just how the day goes here, busy and a bit dirty, but we get it done.
