Our small company is located in Shyamgaon, working out of Sansumi Basumatary’s place. We are a group of people from the Bodoland area who focus on traditional handloom. It’s not a big corporate office; it’s more like a community spot where we gather to manage our weaving work. The roads out here aren't always the best, so getting supplies in can sometimes be a challenge, especially when it rains. We don't have a lot of modern equipment. Most of what we do is still very traditional, using the same methods people have used here for a long time. We handle the collection of the finished cloths and try to find buyers for them. It’s a lot of manual record-keeping on old ledgers. We don't have a big sign or a fancy entrance. If you come to Shyamgaon and ask for us, someone will point you to the house. We spend our days checking the quality of the weaves and making sure everyone is getting what they need. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when we are preparing a big shipment for a fair. We don't have any glossy brochures. We just rely on the quality of the cloth we make. It’s just us, working together to keep our local traditions going. It takes time and patience, but we’ve been doing it this way for years and see no reason to change now.
