The Kudos

If you go up Upper Lake Road in Kodaikanal, you’ll find us at No 115/17-12. The Kudos is a place we’ve been running for a while now. Kodaikanal is a beautiful part of Tamil Nadu, but it’s also a lot of work to keep a place going here. The dampness from the mist gets into everything, so we are always painting or cleaning something. We’re right by the lake area, which is nice for a walk, but the road gets very busy with tourists during the summer. We’re just a small team of local folks. We don’t have a big corporate office in a city somewhere. Everything happens right here on the property. We spend our mornings checking the kitchen and making sure the water heaters are working, because it gets cold up here. Some nights we just sit around the back and talk about how much the town has changed since we were kids. There are more cars now and more noise, but Upper Lake Road still has its quiet moments. We don’t put on airs or pretend to be something we aren’t. It’s just a building with rooms for people who want to see the hills. We do our own laundry and fix our own leaks. It’s a basic way of living, but we like being our own bosses and meeting the different people who find their way up the hill to stay with us.
