Kalap Purakkal Bags

We run Kalap Purakkal Bags out of the house here in Karumalloor. It’s the Kalappurakkal House, near Aluva in the Ernakulam district. It started small and stayed that way. We make bags of all sorts. Nothing too fancy, just stuff that lasts. The workshop is basically part of where we live. You can hear the machines running from the road. Most people in the village know us. We get materials from town and then spend the week putting everything together. It’s a family thing. My uncle started it, and now we all help out. The post office is close by, so we ship things out from there. It’s a quiet area, mostly green. We don't have a storefront in a mall. People usually just come to the house or call us up. Sometimes the rains make things slow down, especially during the monsoon. We just keep the stock dry and wait it out. It’s not a big factory with hundreds of people. Just a few of us working together. We try to make sure every bag is strong enough for daily use. That's really all we care about. We’ve been doing this for years and don't plan on changing much. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We just do our work and look after the family and the neighbors around the house.
