Down at Peyoth Lane on Peyoli Road in Kochi, we handle things for Kone Elivators India Ltd. It’s mostly about parts and keeping things running properly. Kochi is a damp place, so elevators here need a lot of looking after. We have a small office and a storage area for tools and cables. Most of the guys are out on the road half the time, going to buildings to check on the machinery. When the phones ring, it’s usually someone needing a technician. We don’t have a lot of walk-in traffic since it’s more about the technical work we do. The lane is narrow, so parking the service vans is always a struggle for us. Inside, the place is full of metal parts, manuals, and toolboxes. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the next call to come in. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s necessary with all the new tall buildings going up around Kochi lately. Sometimes we have to wait for a specific part to come from the main warehouse, which can be frustrating for everyone involved. We just try to get the work done as it comes. Everyone knows their job and we stick to it. The rain usually slows us down when we are moving between sites, but we keep at it regardless of the weather. It’s a lot of greasy hands and heavy lifting. We’ve been at this Peyoli Road spot for a while now. It serves us well for getting around the city.
