We are located in Deepa Building on Santo Gopalan Road. It’s a bit of a specific spot to find if you aren't local. Marine Hydrocolloids isn't a place with a lot of flash. We have labs and storage areas because of what we handle. The smell is hard to describe—kind of salty and sea-like, which makes sense given the products. The floors are kept very clean, usually white tile that shows every bit of dirt, so someone is always mopping. We wear these lab coats that never stay perfectly white for long. It’s a lot of measuring and checking batches. Sometimes a batch doesn't turn out quite right, and we have to figure out why, which can take all afternoon. The building itself is older, and the elevator sometimes has a mind of its own, so many of us just take the stairs. Santo Gopalan Road isn't the widest street, so when a big shipment arrives, it can block things up for a bit. We try to be quick about it. Our office chairs are a bit mismatched, and the breakroom is just a table with a few stools and a microwave that takes forever to heat anything up. It’s a practical environment. We come in, do the testing, pack the bags, and head home. It’s honest work and we have a good rhythm going between the production and the office side. We usually leave once the final checks for the day are done.
