Alexander Eye Centre

Alexander Eye Centre is right near the Padivattom bus stop on Civil Line Road. You can hear the buses pulling in and out all day long, which is just part of the background noise for us now. We spend our hours doing eye tests and helping people find frames that don’t sit crooked on their faces. It is a small team here, and we usually start the day by cleaning the glass cases and making sure the testing machines are wiped down. The light in the front of the shop is quite bright, but the exam room in the back is dark, so your eyes have to get used to going back and forth. People come in from the street looking a bit frazzled from the traffic, and they sit on the chairs waiting for their turn. We try to keep things organized, but sometimes it gets a bit messy when we have a lot of files out. It isn't a corporate office; it’s just a place where we work. We talk about the weather or the local news while we work. Most of the people who come in are from the neighborhood, so we see familiar faces quite often. Sometimes the computer system acts up and we have to wait for it to restart, which gives us a minute to grab a quick coffee. We just do our best to keep things moving along without too much fuss or unnecessary delay.
