Geologist In Kwhep,Jaypee Group

We've been working up here at the Karcham-Wangtoo project site for a while now. It’s part of the Jaypee Group and we handle the geological side of things for the 1000 Mw setup. Being in Kinnaur, specifically around Sholtu and Tapri, means dealing with the terrain every single day. Most of our time is spent looking at the rock formations and making sure everything is solid for the Jaiprakash Associates Ltd operations. It gets cold and the work is pretty steady but the mountains here are something else. We aren't a fancy office in a city, just a group of folks doing the ground work at the H.E.P. plant. Living and working at the site means you get used to the quiet and the rhythm of the project. It’s a lot of surveying and checking the earth before the big machinery does its thing. People mostly find us through the main Sholtu gate. We’ve got a small team and we just keep the geological records updated and monitor the tunnels and structural bits. It’s not always easy being out in the HP district like this, but we get the job done. We just focus on the rocks and the soil and making sure the project keeps moving along without any unexpected surprises from the ground under us. It’s basic, hard work in the hills. We spend our days out in the elements and our nights in the site housing. It is a long-term commitment for all of us here.
