Mangalajodi Ecotourism

We are out in Mangalajodi, which you get to via Tangi. It’s a very different kind of place, mostly wetlands and water. We started this because we wanted to show people the birds and the natural beauty of the marshes here. It’s not a fancy resort. We have some basic facilities for visitors who come to see the migratory birds. Most of us grew up right here in the village. We used to be a different kind of community, but now we mostly look after the environment and help guests get around in the boats. The mornings are the best time, when it’s still quiet and the mist is over the water. It’s a lot of outdoor work. We don't have big offices or computers everywhere. We spend our time on the boats or walking the paths to see what birds have arrived. It’s a simple life tied to the seasons. When the birds come in the winter, we are very busy. When they leave, it gets quiet again and we go back to our regular chores. We aren't polished tour guides with scripts. We just tell you what we know about the water and the animals based on what we see every day. It’s honest work that helps our village survive. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, but that’s nature for you. If you want to see the real Mangalajodi, you just come find us at the edge of the village. It’s peaceful here and we enjoy it.
