Tripura Bamboo Nursery

Out here in Po Ps.Khowai Shingichara, we have the bamboo nursery. It’s a rural spot, and the air is different than in the city. We spend our days mostly outdoors. Bamboo grows fast, but it still needs a lot of looking after when it’s young. We have rows and rows of different types. Our hands are usually calloused from handling the stalks and digging in the dirt. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and we’ve lived in this district for a long time. The weather really dictates our schedule. When it rains, we’re out there checking the drainage. When it’s dry, we’re hauling water. It’s physical work, and by the end of the day, everyone is tired. We don’t have a website with fancy photos. If you want to see what we have, you just come down the road and look at the fields. We sell to locals and sometimes people come from further away to load up a truck. We don't have a big sales pitch. The bamboo speaks for itself, I guess. We just make sure it stays healthy and strong. It’s a simple way to make a living. We know the land well and we know how the bamboo likes to grow in this soil. It’s just what we do here in Shingichara every single day. The nursery is just part of the landscape now. We don't change much. We just keep planting and harvesting.
