Nilachakra Handloom And Handicraft Foundation is situated in Madhusudan Nagar in Khordha. We are very near the Mangala Temple, which is the main landmark for anyone trying to find us. The Pallahat area is quite lively, especially during festival times. Our office is a simple place where we keep some of the local crafts and handloom items. It’s not a showroom, just a place where the work gets managed. You can hear the temple bells in the morning and evening, which is a nice part of working here. The Town Thana is also close by, so the area feels very central. We have a few wooden tables and some large trunks where we store things. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when more than three or four people are inside. We don’t have fancy lighting or expensive furniture. It’s just a practical space for practical people. Most of us who work here have a background in the local crafts, so we know what we are talking about when people ask questions. We spend our days meeting with weavers and artisans from around Khordha. It’s a lot of back-and-forth communication. We aren't a big operation with a lot of money; we just try to keep the handloom traditions going in our own small way. It’s a bit dusty and the chairs creak, but it feels like home to us.
