This business is located in Sonepur, at the same address near the Andhra Bank where Palasti Meher is. We work on solar charkhas, which are spinning wheels that run on power from the sun. It is a mix of the old ways of doing things and some newer technology. Sonepur gets a lot of bright sunlight, so it made sense to try and use that energy for spinning yarn. We spend our time at Khata 591, mostly working on the equipment or showing people how the solar panels are supposed to connect to the wheels. It is a very practical setup. We are not trying to change the world, just trying to make the daily work a bit easier for the people who still spend their time spinning. The shop floor has several of these machines lined up in rows. When the sun is out, they work really well and the place is humming. When it is cloudy, we just do maintenance or other small tasks around the shop. We do not have a marketing budget, so most people hear about us from other weavers in the neighborhood. It is a real community thing. The address is shared with a textile machinery business, so there is always something going on with frames and metal parts lying around. It is a bit crowded, but we like helping people keep their traditions alive without it being so hard.
