Nayapally is where we are set up, specifically at Plot No-697 in Malana Nivas. Engineering Consultancy Services is basically a few of us who spend our days looking at structural details and talking to various contractors. It’s not a very quiet office because there’s always someone on the phone or a bike pulling up outside the door. Bhubaneswar has changed a lot lately, but we’ve stayed right here in this same spot for years. We have a lot of files stacked up on the wooden shelves, mostly old project reports and maps that are starting to yellow. When people come by, they usually just pull up a plastic chair and we talk through whatever technical problem they are facing that day. We don't use much fancy talk, just plain engineering talk about what will work and what won't. The lighting in the back room is a bit dim, but it’s where we do most of the drafting. We spend a lot of time checking and re-checking figures because that’s the main part of the job. It’s a lot of coffee and sometimes some local snacks while we work through the afternoon heat. It’s not a glamorous setup, just a functional one where we can get the drawings done and keep things moving. Sometimes the rain makes it a bit messy around the entrance, but inside it’s just us working through the backlog. We’ve become a part of the local scenery here in Nayapally over the years.
