Being based at B 49 Rail Vihar in Chandrasekharpur means we are right in the middle of a busy railway community. This part of Bhubaneswar is usually quite active, especially in the mornings when everyone is heading out. Our office isn't anything special to look at, just a practical space where the Indian Railways team manages daily tasks. The building shows its age a little, with some patches on the walls and floors that have seen better days. Inside, the fans are almost always running to beat the Orissa heat. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking through piles of documents that never seem to get smaller. There is a lot of routine here. We have our tea breaks at the same time and usually talk about the weather or the latest news from the tracks. It’s a bit cramped with all the desks and cabinets, but we make do. The neighborhood around Rail Vihar is full of families and other staff, so it feels like a small village sometimes. You can hear the sounds of the colony outside while we work. It’s not a corporate environment with glass walls; it’s more like a second home for most of us who have been here for years. We just focus on getting the work done and keeping things moving.
