Khimsar Fort

Khimsar Fort sits right here in the Nagaur district and it has been standing for a very long time. People usually find us after a bit of a drive through the desert roads. It’s an old place with thick walls and high ceilings that keep things a bit cooler when the sun is out. The family has stayed here for generations and we just try to keep the place together. There is always something that needs fixing because stones get old and the wind blows a lot of sand around the courtyard. We spend a lot of time just sweeping and making sure the rooms are ready for whoever stops by. It isn't a fancy modern building with glass and steel, just the old fort. You can see the sunset from the top parts if you don’t mind climbing some narrow stairs. We have the staff working in the kitchen and the gardens, mostly locals from the village nearby who have been with us for years. Some days it is very quiet and you can only hear the birds, other days it gets busy with people coming to look at the old architecture. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It is just the fort and the people who live and work inside it. We try to keep the food simple and the beds clean. That is pretty much how things go around here day after day.
