Silvan Plywood Industries

Our factory sits right near the Mehsana Highway Road in Kheralu. If you are driving through this part of Gujarat, you will see the Silvan Plywood sign near the main turnoff. It is a pretty standard setup for a plywood industry. We have stacks of wood veneer piled up in the yard and the smell of glue is something you just get used to after working here for a week. We spend our time pressing layers of wood together and trimming the edges to get the boards straight. The machines are old but they still do the work if you treat them right. We are not a massive corporation with fancy offices. Most of the time, the boss is out there with the rest of us checking the moisture levels in the wood. It can get pretty chaotic when three or four trucks show up at the same time to pick up orders, and we have to scramble to get everything loaded. We have some local guys from the village who walk over every morning to start the shifts. It is steady work, nothing too exciting, but it keeps the lights on. Sometimes the power goes out and we all just sit outside by the highway until it comes back on. We just focus on making the sheets and getting them out the door to whoever ordered them.
