About KHATKHATA WEAVERS FOUNDATION – Textile in Khargone
Khatkhata Weavers Foundation is located in Maheshwar, which is a place very famous for its handlooms. We are specifically at Gadikhana on Mandleshwar Road. Prahlad Ramratan is the name associated with our spot here. If you know Maheshwar, you know the sound of the looms—that 'khatkhata' sound is where we got the name. We focus on the weavers and the traditional work that happens in this part of Khargone. It is a very old way of doing things, and we try to keep that going. Our space is not a modern factory. It feels more like a community spot where the work actually happens. We have weavers coming in and out all day. Some are older and have been doing this for forty years. Others are younger, just learning the ropes. We deal with the threads and the dyes and the wooden looms. It is slow work compared to the big mills in the cities. We don't have a website with flashy photos. We just have our workshop on Mandleshwar Road. People find us by word of mouth mostly. Being in Madhya Pradesh, we are lucky to have such a strong local tradition. We just do our part to make sure the looms keep moving. It is a lot of manual labor and sitting for long hours, but the result is something you can touch and feel the history in. We keep it simple and honest.
