If you head down Badinpur Road in Khanpura, you’ll see our yard. It’s G O Steel, though the sign is getting a bit faded from the sun. We handle steel, which is heavy and loud work. There are always trucks backing in and out, and the sound of metal clanging is constant. It’s not a quiet place to work. We have a small office where we handle the orders, but most of the action is outside. We deal with local builders and small manufacturing shops mostly. Khanpura is an industrial kind of area, so we fit right in. The dust from the road gets everywhere. We spend a lot of time counting inventory and checking the weight on the scales. Sometimes the rain slows everything down because the yard gets muddy, and it’s hard to move the heavy stuff. We’ve been here for several years now. It’s just a group of us who show up early and stay until the last truck is loaded. We don't do much marketing or anything like that. People just know we are on Badinpur Road. We keep the prices as fair as we can based on the market. It’s hard work, and your back usually hurts by the end of the shift. But it’s a steady living and we keep the gates open six days a week. We don't have fancy brochures, just steel and the people who know how to move it.
