Dashmesh Khad Depot

Out here in Khanna 4, things move a bit slower at Dashmesh Khad Depot. We deal with fertilizers and stuff for the fields, so our busy times depend entirely on the weather and the sowing season. When the rain comes at the right time, everyone is here at once, and when it’s dry, we just sit and wait. The smell of the bags is quite strong, something you get used to after working here for a few months. We have stacks of heavy bags piled up nearly to the ceiling in the back room. My hands are usually a bit dusty from handling the sacks, and the floor is never really clean no matter how much we sweep it. Farmers come in from all around the area, sometimes they stay for an hour just talking about the crops and the prices this year. We don't have a computer system or anything, just a big ledger where we write everything down by hand. It works for us. Khanna 4 is a practical place, and we are practical people. We don't try to act like we are some big company from the city. We are just a depot providing what the land needs. Sometimes the truck drivers bring news from the other side of the district while they unload their cargo. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and moving, but it keeps us busy and connected to the ground and the local people.
