I run this tailoring shop out of my house at 1-161/1 in the Mala Gumpu area of Komararam. It’s a small space filled with bits of fabric, spools of thread, and a couple of sewing machines that have seen a lot of use. Yellandu is where I grew up, and I’ve been sewing for the neighbors here for years. Mostly I do simple things like hemming trousers, fixing torn shirts, or stitching blouses for the women in the village. It’s not a high-end fashion place, just a corner where I can sit and work. People bring their own cloth, and I take their measurements with an old yellow tape. Sometimes the machines act up and I have to spend an hour oiling the gears to get them running smooth again. The light isn't always great in the evenings, so I try to get most of the detailed stitching done while the sun is up. There’s usually a pile of clothes waiting to be picked up in the corner. I don't use any fancy patterns, just what I’ve learned over time. It’s quiet work, and I like listening to the sounds of the neighborhood while I sew. People come by to chat or check if their clothes are ready yet. I just keep stitching until the work is finished. My pincushion is always full and there are scraps of cloth on the rug.
