Our shop, Shivanagendra Steel And Fancy, is located on the ground floor of the Rangavari Complex right by the Old Bus Stand. Being in Vaira Mandal near the bus stop means there is never a quiet moment. You can hear the conductors shouting and the engines idling all day long. We sell a variety of steel utensils and some fancy items for the home, so our shelves are always packed tight. The ground floor location is good because people can just wander in while they are waiting for their bus to arrive. We have a lot of shiny pots and pans hanging from the ceiling to save space. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty because of all the people and vehicles outside, so we are always wiping down the merchandise. The floor is made of simple stone and it stays relatively cool even when the sun is beating down on the street. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who know where everything is hidden in the back. Customers often come in looking for a gift or something new for their kitchen. We talk to a lot of travelers who are just passing through the area. It’s a simple life of counting change and stacking steel plates, but we enjoy the rhythm of the bus stand. We just keep things honest and handle the customers as they come through the door.
