About PARBATTA BANANA FIBER LLP – Textile in Khagaria
We are based in the village of Dumaria Buzurg, which is in the Parbatta block. The business is run from the premises of Rakesh Kumar Choudhary. We focus on a very specific thing, which is extracting fiber from banana plants. Since there are so many banana plantations around here, it seemed like a waste to just let the stems rot in the fields. It’s a very manual process and can be quite messy. We spend a lot of time outside in the sun, stripping the layers and cleaning the fibers so they can be used for making things like ropes or bags. We don't have any high-tech machines. Most of what we do involves simple tools and a lot of physical effort. It’s definitely not a corporate office job. We are usually covered in some bit of plant material or water by the end of the day. We don't have a big brand name or a polished image. We’re just a few people from the village trying to turn agricultural waste into something that someone might want to buy. It’s a slow business and it depends a lot on the seasons and the harvest. We don't have a website or a sales team. We just talk to people who might need the fiber and go from there. It’s hard work, but there is something satisfying about working with your hands in your own village.
