M/S Jagannath Das & Co.

M/S Jagannath Das & Co. is based in the village of Murutia. Our mail goes to the Ankhona post office. We fall under the Ketugram police station in the Purba Burdwan district. It’s a very traditional rural area, and our office reflects that. We are located in a simple brick building that has been here for years. There are fields all around us, so depending on the season, it either looks very green or very brown outside our windows. The work we do is pretty routine. We come in early, usually around the time the sun is coming up, and stay until the work is finished. There are no fancy computers or high-tech gadgets in our office. We mostly use paper ledgers and do a lot of things by hand. It’s how we have always done it. The people in Murutia are mostly farmers or small traders, so we all know each other’s business. If someone is looking for Jagannath Das & Co., they usually just ask at the tea shop in Ankhona. It’s not the kind of place you find on a map very easily, but we are here. The roof leaks a little bit when the monsoon rains are heavy, but we just put a bucket under it and keep working. We aren't interested in being some big corporate firm. We just want to do our daily tasks and go home to our families.
