Occupation

This is Suresh Kumar. K's place at Jai Nivas. It’s located in Nituvaloor, which is near Chuzhali in the Kannur district of Kerala. Occupation is just what we do from here. It’s a quiet spot, not like the big cities where everything is fast and loud. We have a small area set aside for our daily work. The trees outside keep things relatively cool, which is nice during the summer months when it gets humid. There’s a lot of greenery around the house which we really like. We don’t have a big staff, just a few local people who help out when things get busy. Most of our day is spent talking to neighbors or people from the surrounding villages. We use the porch a lot for meetings instead of sitting inside. It’s more comfortable that way. We keep our records in a basic ledger book. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us and we haven't changed it yet. We’ve lived in Kerala all our lives, so we know how things work in this district. The rain can be very heavy here, so we sometimes have to stop work for a bit. It’s a modest setup. We don't have any flashy signs or a big website. Most people find us through word of mouth. It's just a regular house where we run our business. We try to be helpful to whoever walks through the door. It’s a straightforward way of working. It suits us fine.
