Bishnu Priya Rice Mill

Our mill is located in Village Bartana, which is under the Post Jaleswar in the Balasore District. Bishnu Priya Rice Mill is a place where we do things the old-fashioned way. The village is very quiet, and you can hear the birds in the morning before we start the engines. Once the mill starts, that’s all you can hear. Balasore can be very wet during the monsoon, so we have to make sure the roof doesn't leak onto the rice. We spend a lot of time checking the bags for dampness. Bartana is a small place and everyone knows where the mill is. We don't have a lot of modern office stuff. Just a table and some chairs where we sit and talk to the farmers. The rice comes in from the local fields and we process it right here. It’s a lot of manual labor, carrying sacks on our shoulders. We don't have a big marketing department. We just have our name on the wall. The work depends on the seasons. When the harvest comes, we are busy 24 hours a day. When it’s not harvest time, we do repairs and clean the machines. It’s a basic cycle that we follow every year. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
