If you head out towards Keonjhar and go through Telkoi, you’ll find us in a village called Halpodi. Our little setup for Telkoi Organic Farmers is right there. It’s a rural area, very quiet except for the sounds of the goats and the occasional tractor. We are just a group of local farmers who decided to team up. Dealing with buyers is hard when you are on your own, so we formed this company to help each other out. Our address is at Halpodi, via Telkoi, and it’s basically just a storage room and a small desk where we keep the ledger. Most of our members are small farmers with just a bit of land. We try to grow everything organically, which is what our grandparents used to do before all the chemical sprays became popular. It’s a learning process for everyone. Some of the younger guys want to move to the city, but we are trying to show that there is a good life here in the village too. The Keonjhar hills are beautiful but they make farming tough sometimes. We deal with pests using neem oil and other natural things we can find. It’s not always perfect and sometimes we lose a crop, but that’s farming. We are just honest people trying to grow healthy food and stay independent. It’s a slow life, but it’s our life.
