Silk Route Escapes

Rajasthan is a big place with a lot of history, but we operate out of a small, simple office here. Silk Route Escapes is what we call ourselves because we always liked the stories of those old trade routes. Mostly we just help people figure out where to go and what to see when they visit our state. It’s not like those big corporate travel agencies you see online. We just know the local spots because we’ve lived here our whole lives. The sun is very strong in the summer months, so we usually do most of our heavy work in the early mornings before it gets too hot. We don't have a big office with glass walls or air conditioning that actually works well. It’s more of a dusty room with a lot of maps and old notebooks scattered around. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to drivers and small hotel owners in the desert. Sometimes the plans have to change at the last minute because a road is washed out or a local festival is starting. We just handle it as it comes. People ask us for advice and we tell them what we honestly think. It’s a simple way to make a living. We’ve seen a lot of tourists come and go over the years. Some are nice, some are always in a hurry. We prefer the ones who take their time to see the real Rajasthan.
