Annapurna Cloth Market is always busy. We spend our days at Sai Madhu Textile surrounded by stacks of fabric. Sometimes the stacks get so high you can hardly see the back wall. It is mostly just us here from morning until the market shuts down at night. We spend a lot of time unrolling bolts of cloth and showing them to people who come in looking for something specific. The floors get dusty from the threads and the lint, so we sweep a few times a day but it never really stays clean for long. There is a specific smell to new cotton and synthetic rolls that you just get used to after a while. Most people who stop by are regulars from the neighborhood or other shopkeepers just passing through to say hello. It can get pretty cramped when three or four people are inside the shop at once because the aisles are narrow. We have a couple of stools but usually we are just standing or leaning against the counter. The fans hum all day to keep the air moving because the market gets warm in the afternoons. We handle the billing on a small wooden desk that has seen better days. It is simple work, just measuring meters and cutting straight lines. Sometimes we chat with the neighbors about how the market is doing or what the weather is going to be like. That is just how it goes here every day in the shop.
