Shanti Brick Fill

Shanti Brick Fill is out here in the Burdwan district. We’ve got a good amount of land where we do the digging and the firing. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, and my hands are usually stained from the earth. We don’t have a big marketing budget or anyone to write professional bios for us. It’s just me and the guys working the kiln. We’ve been doing this for years, watching the seasons change and moving the bricks accordingly. When the monsoon hits, everything slows down and we spend most of our time trying to keep the supplies dry under plastic sheets. In the dry months, it’s a non-stop cycle of molding and burning. We don’t make any big claims about being the best or anything like that. We just make the bricks and hope people find them useful for their buildings. Most of our customers are from the villages nearby or contractors who have been buying from us for a decade. We keep the prices as fair as we can, considering how much the coal costs these days. It’s a simple business. You dig the mud, you shape it, you heat it, and you sell it. We don’t overthink things here in Burdwan. We just do the work that needs to be done every morning and wait for the sun to go down so we can rest. It’s repetitive, but there’s something good about it.
