About Nandwani Handlooms – Fashion & Trends in Katihar
Amla Tola is where we have been for as long as I can remember. The shop is right in the heart of the area. Nandwani Handlooms is not a big operation, just a place where we spend our days weaving and selling fabric. The rooms are filled with the smell of raw cotton and the sound of the wooden looms clacking away. It is a very specific sound that you never really get out of your head. We have stacks of finished cloth piled up on the wooden shelves. Some of it has been there for a while, waiting for the right person to come by. We do everything by hand here. It is slow and sometimes we get behind on our work because someone got sick or the weather was too humid for the thread. Amla Tola is a busy part of town, so we always have people popping in to ask prices or just to see what we are making today. We do not have a website or anything like that. We just rely on the people who live nearby and the word of mouth that comes from years of being in the same spot. My hands are always a bit rough from handling the yarn all day, but that is part of the job. We keep the shop open late most nights just to finish off the pieces we started in the morning. It is a local life and it suits us just fine for now.
