Amar Jyoti High School

We've been here in the Main Bazar area of Sher Singh Mandi for quite a long time now. You'll find Amar Jyoti High School right in the middle of everything in Kathua. Most people around here know exactly where we are because of all the noise the kids make when they're coming and going every morning. The building is older, but it does the job just fine for what we need. It's usually pretty busy around the entrance, especially during pick-up time when all the parents arrive at once. We spend most of our days making sure the classrooms are ready and that the kids are actually sitting in their seats. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the maintenance of an old place like this right in the busy bazar. Sometimes the water taps leak or a door handle gets loose, but we fix things as they come along. Our staff lives mostly nearby, so we’re all locals who see each other at the vegetable market anyway. The school day starts early and by the afternoon, the halls are quiet again. It’s just how it’s always been here. We don’t have fancy stuff, just desks, chalkboards, and teachers who have been with us for years. Parents stop by to chat sometimes or to check on how their children are doing in their classes. It's a simple setup. We focus on the daily lessons and getting through the school year without too much trouble.
