If you walk down Bismillah Road in Padannavadakkepuram, you’ll find us at Building No 4/150 A. We are Sweesa Bakery and Confectionery, and the first thing you’ll notice is probably the smell of bread or sugar. It’s a great place to work because of that. We aren't a massive factory; we’re just a local bakery with a few ovens and some people who know how to use them. The mornings are when the magic happens, with the heat from the ovens making the place feel cozy, even when it’s raining outside. We have our regulars who come in every single day for their usual loaf or a few sweets for the kids. Padannavadakkepuram is a tight-knit place, and we feel lucky to be right in the middle of it on Bismillah Road. We don't use any fancy machines that do everything for us; there's still a lot of hand-shaping and checking by eye. Sometimes a batch gets a little too brown, but that’s just how it goes when you’re doing things for real. We aren't looking to become some huge chain. We just like making things that people enjoy eating. If the tea is hot and the biscuits are crunchy, we’re happy. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy and the neighbors fed. We spend most of our time in aprons, covered in a bit of flour, just getting the next tray ready for the oven.
