It’s just us here at Balla Mellikat. We’ve been running New Five Star Soft Drinks And Soda for a while now. Kanhangad can get pretty warm, so having cold sodas ready is what we do. It’s a simple setup. We keep the crates stacked and the fridge running. People stop by when they’re thirsty or just passing through. It’s not a big fancy place, just a regular spot on the road. We spend most of the day making sure everything is stocked up. Sometimes it's quiet, other times there’s a bit of a rush when the buses go by. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years but we’re still right here. Dealing with glass bottles and crates is heavy work, but it's okay. We know most of the people who come in. They just want something cold to drink without any fuss. We keep the shop open early and stay until things wind down in the evening. It’s a basic life here in Kanhangad.
