M A Star Fisheries is based at Aleema Manzil, right near the Khizarjamia Masjid in Tonka, Kasarkod. Being near the water means our day starts very early, often while everyone else is still sleeping. Dealing with fish is a wet and cold job, and you definitely get used to the smell of the sea after a while. Our place at No. 395/0 is where we manage the catches and get things ready for transport. It’s a lot of ice and crates and heavy lifting. We don’t have a fancy office with carpets; it’s more about concrete floors and boots. The masjid nearby is a good landmark for people trying to find us. We work with the local fishermen and the trucks that come to pick up the stock. Some days the catch is good and we are very busy, other days it is a bit quiet. We just take it as it comes. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just a reliable one here in Kasarkod. The equipment needs a lot of washing down at the end of every day to keep things clean. It’s hard work and your hands get sore, but it’s what we know how to do. We've been at this spot for a while and the locals know us. The salty air and the morning rush are just part of our daily life.
