About Jose Rice Mill – Food & Beverages in Kasaragod
Down in Nileshwar, specifically in the Kakada area, you’ll find Jose Rice Mill. It’s at number 369. It’s a loud place because of the machinery, but that’s just how a rice mill is. We’ve been processing grain here for a long time. The dust gets everywhere, and the smell of raw rice is always in the air. We don’t have a front office with a receptionist. You just walk in and talk to whoever is near the machines. It’s hard work, and the floors are always covered in husks. We take the paddy from local farmers and get it ready. It’s not a high-tech factory. We use old machines that we’ve fixed a hundred times. They still run fine if you know how to handle them. Most of our days are spent checking the moisture or bagging the finished product. We don't do fancy packaging with colorful pictures. It’s just plain bags. People know us in Kakada because we’ve been here forever. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in the state. We just want to keep the machines running and the customers satisfied with the rice they get back. It’s a messy job, but someone has to do it. We close up when the sun goes down and start again early the next day. It is just honest labor here at our little spot in the village.
