Ayurmadom Traditional Ayurveda Hospital

This is Ayurmadom, a traditional hospital out here in Paduppu. It’s a bit of a trek to get to us, but that’s because we are away from the main city noise. The building is simple and looks more like a large house than a hospital. We have several rooms for patients who stay for a week or two. The beds are made of dark wood and the mattresses are firm. We don't have TVs or anything like that in the rooms; it’s meant to be a place for rest. The air here is cleaner than in the towns, which helps. I spend my days checking on the herb garden and making sure the kitchen is preparing the right meals. We follow the old ways of doing things, which means a lot of manual work. Grinding the herbs by hand takes a long time and makes your arms tired, but it’s how it should be done. The hospital has a quiet atmosphere, and you can hear the birds in the trees outside most of the time. Sometimes the monkeys come around and try to steal fruit from the trees near the windows. It’s a very plain life here. We don't have a big marketing budget or a fancy website. Most of our patients come because their parents or grandparents came here years ago. It’s just a place where we do the work we know how to do.
