Saudia Oriental Arabic High School

Over in Chinthamanipatti, near Kulithalai, you’ll find Saudia Oriental Arabic High School. It’s a bit of a quiet area, which is good for focusing on studies. The school building has been around for some time now and it shows its age in a few places. We have high ceilings to help with the heat and narrow windows that let in a bit of light. The classrooms are filled with long benches where the students sit together. We teach the regular subjects along with the specialized ones that give the school its name. It’s a very traditional environment. We don't have a computer lab or anything like that, just a lot of books and dedicated teachers. The courtyard in the middle is where most of the activity happens during break times. You’ll see kids talking and sharing food there. We try to keep the garden area tidy, but the goats from the nearby houses sometimes get in if the gate isn’t shut tight. It’s a very rural feel here. People in Kulithalai know us as a place where things are done simply and without much ego. We don't put out advertisements or anything. Most people find us through word of mouth. It’s just a community school where we try to do our best with the resources we have on hand. Every day is pretty much the same, and we like that stability for our students and staff.
